We require over 100 MPs to be in the House of Commons on the 22nd February 2008 to ensure that Private Members' Bill heard and actually progressed to the Committee stage. This Bill will improve the working lives of hundreds, probably thousands, of our constituents. Compared to permanent employees the majority of agency workers in the UK lose out in terms of pay, holiday and company sick pay as well as family friendly rights. We would urge all CWU Members without delay to write to their MP to establish if they will be supporting the Bill and attending Westminster. I have attached draft letters, motions that can be used for this purpose. I have also attached an excellent letter that is being sent to all NW MPs by the Youth Committee. I know we can undertake the work and achieve the second reading for our colleagues and all agency workers. If you need any help or have any queries please contact me? Carl Webb, North West Regional Secretary Draft letter: Rt. Hon. ……………… MP 16th January 2008 Dear ………. Re: Andrew Miller’s Private Members Bill - Agency Workers I am contacting you on behalf of the CWU……………………………………. Branch to request that you be present at Westminster on Friday, 22nd February 2008 to support the above Private Members Bill. You may be aware that any Private Members Bill requires 100 MPs to receive its second reading and therefore your support will be instrumental in helping the Bill progress to the next stage. The Temporary and Agency Workers Bill, promoted by Andrew Miller MP, would outlaw discrimination against agency workers. It is backed by my union the CWU, and UNITE, GMB, Unison, as well as the TUC. Compared to permanent employees, the majority of agency workers in the UK lose out in terms of pay, holiday and company sick pay, as well as family friendly rights. I would also ask that you to consider supporting and signing EDM 692 (AGENCY WORKERS). Please also encourage your colleagues to do the same. Please confirm that you will be supporting the Bill on the 22nd February, as this could improve the working lives of hundreds, probably thousands, of your constituents. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, Which MP's have signed EDM692?
