Crewe Postal Workers Deliver Petition To No.10

On Thursday 16th October six CWU members and postal workers from Crewe along with their MP Edward Timpson took their fight to keep Crewe mail centre open to Gordon Brown at No. 10.

Over the last few weeks CWU members and their families in the North West have collected over ten thousand signatures calling for Crewe mail centre to remain open.

Royal Mail proposes to close Crewe mail centre and transfer the work to Warrington along with Liverpool mail centre traffic.

Politicians from all political parties, the local council and business leaders have all condemned the decision.

Steve Wright, Branch Secretary of Cheshire No1, said:

“We can only hope that the government who own Royal Mail intercedes and make management listen to their customers’ concerns about the service that will be left behind and the impact on the local economy if the Mail centre closure goes ahead.

We will continue to campaign locally and nationally as we believe the decision to close Crewe mail centre is all about making a fast buck by selling the building and not about improving the service to the business community and the general public. In fact, closing the mail centre will do the opposite, with later deliveries and earlier and less collections.”

The CWU have organised a march and rally to take place on Saturday 25th October.
