Fight To Save Alderley Edge Delivery Office Intensifies

Alderley Edge CWU members demonstrateFifteen Postal Workers in Alderley Edge Delivery Office (an Office in the North West Central Amalgamated Branch) are set to take Industrial Action on Monday 24th December 2007.

The latest move represents an intensification of an ongoing campaign to resist the unagreed relocation of the Office into Wilmslow Delivery Office.

It is the intention of Royal Mail to relocate the Office without Carl Webb attends Alderley Edgeany negotiation or agreement in early 2008. Not once have they sought the input or agreement of the Union.

The proposed action follows on from earlier campaign initiatives in which over half the Village Residents signed a petition opposing the move.

And on Monday 3rd December, a demonstration was held outside the Office. CWU Members, Branch Representatives, an Executive Council Member, Divisional Officer, Regional Secretary,  Local Politicians and Residents turned out in force to support the retention of the local service.

It has been widely reported as the Biggest demonstration in the history of the Village.

Alderley Edge Demo included public supportNW Central Amal Branch Secretary, Dave Kennedy said:

"Our members are adamant that any move will result in a marked deterioration in the current service levels and will undoubtedly lead to a worsening of Working conditions for our members.

We have given Royal Mail ample time to back off from this damaging plan. They have failed to do so – choosing instead to put the pursuit of hard cash before all else.

They will now be solely responsible for Industrial Action in Alderley Edge."
