Hundreds of North West Members March To Support Burslem Strikers

Following full support from the Mayor of Stoke and local MPs for CWU's demand that the Burslem case be heard by an independent appeals panel which is standard procedure in these cases, Postal workers from across the North West joined a demonstration in support of their striking colleagues in Burslem on Saturday the 19th January.
The CWU asks, "What does Royal Mail have to hide?”
Members from Crewe, Stockport, Manchester, Merseyside, Oldham, Rochdale, Preston, Blackpool, Warrington and East Lancs joined members from Scotland, Belfast, London, Wales and the Midlands to march to back striking postal workers in Burslem.
Over 1,000 gathered at the Scotia Road delivery depot in Burslem and marched to Hanley's Potteries Museum and Art Gallery Forum Theatre in protest over Royal Mail's handling of 12 suspension cases relating to allegations of bullying and harassment.
CWU Midlands Regional Secretary Lee Barron said colleagues had come from far afield. "Today was about trying to raise public awareness and putting public pressure on Royal Mail to resolve this dispute."
Carl Webb NW Regional Secretary said: “It was a fantastic turnout and a terrific moral booster for the Burslem membership. All we want is a victory for common sense.”
