Messages Of Support

Examples of some of the messages of support for the CWU Postal members:

Message of Support from Finnish Postal Workers

Esa Vilkuna Chairman The Finnish Post and Logistics Union
Translation from Finnish (Mikko Häkkinen)

I hope you will forward our greetings to The Communication Workers Union.
Our situation in Finland is very similar to yours. Postal sector is going through principled liberalization.  The first ones who will suffer are workers, next there will be citizens. This will lead to a worse, more unequal and more expensive postal service for citizens.

I wish success to our sisters and brothers in their battle.

Helen Stockton PCS Branch Secretary WLWC

On behalf of the PCS West Lancs & West Cheshire Revenue Branch I would like to offer our support to your members in their fight against the cuts and relocations.
The support of your union was much appreciated in our joint march and rally in Crewe last year and although our campaign to save some of our offices has been unsuccessful, hopefully you will have more luck!

Please pass on our regards to your colleagues, especially the reps in the Crewe Sorting Office.

Frank Hont Regional Secretary

I am writing to confirm UNISON’s full support for the strike action you are taking on Thursday and Friday this week.  We fully appreciate that no worker takes the decision to strike lightly and we believe that your members will want to know that they have our full support – and they do.

If there is any specific initiative you would want UNISON North West to undertake, do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes.

Simon Jones National Executive Member Blackburn with Darwen Division Secretary National Union of Teachers

Please can you pass on this message of support and solidarity to your members for the brave and determined stand they are taking to defend their pay and conditions and oppose privatisation.

We wish you every success with your dispute. Please let me know where donations can be sent to your hardship fund.

Paddy Dillon Branch Secretary, on behalf of PCS Branch Executive Committee Information Commissioner’s Office

We are writing from the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union branch at the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Our main office is based in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and the majority of our members live across the Greater Manchester and Cheshire regions. We also have members based in other regions of the north west and in regional offices in Cardiff, Edinburgh and London.

We would like to express support for all members of your CWU branch and offer our solidarity in your ongoing dispute with Royal Mail’s management. We understand and support the reasons for the strike action planned later this week and are appalled by the management’s actions in refusing to negotiate meaningfully with the CWU, including the recent attempt to undermine the position of your members by recruiting additional temporary staff. We share your anger at the intentions of this government and the other major political parties to run down important public services like the Royal Mail with little regard for the interests and welfare of the workers affected. Naturally, we also share CWU members’ concerns about matters common to all workplaces such as poor management practice and systemic bullying.

Our branch supports the action you are proposing to take and wishes you luck in the fight for a positive outcome to the dispute.

Steve Farley PCS Nw Regional Secretary and Lavinia O’connor PCS Regional Chair:

On behalf of 44,000 PCS members in the North West we offer our full support to CWU and its members in their dispute with Royal Mail.

PCS members recognise the attack on public services.  The failure of Royal Mail to enter into ACAS facilitated negotiations speaks volumes about their approach to industrial relations.

PCS members would welcome the opportunity to show their support for CWU members.  Please keep us informed of picket lines and other activities and we will ensure our members are asked to offer practical support.

Mark Hoskisson Secretary Liverpool Trades Union Council

Dear Brothers and sisters

Please be assured that you have the full support of Liverpool Trades Union Council in your campaign of action. We are with you 100% and if there is anything you need doing to help win your dispute let us know and we will do our best to support you.

In solidarity
