No Support For Royal Mail Privatisation MPs

The North West Region of the Communication Workers Union has confirmed that they will not campaign for or help fund those North West Labour MPs and ministers who have not opposed the Government’s plans to part privatise Royal Mail.

The region, which has over 30,000 members in post, telecoms and financial services industries, will lend no support to those MPs and ministers who have either openly supported the part sell off of Royal Mail or those who have sat on the fence hiding behind protocol or the pitiful excuse that they are unable to make their minds up. At a time when the public has lost faith in our political leaders they can restore some goodwill by sticking to the commitment given to the electorate and keep Royal Mail 100 per cent in the public sector.

Carl Webb, NW Regional Secretary, said: “Our members would never forgive us if we assisted any Labour MP who has betrayed them and the electorate by supporting the part privatisation of Royal Mail, which will lead to massive job losses and reduced services within the North West.

“We will be producing a list of those NW Labour MPs who we are not supporting, and we have not ruled out campaigning in their constituency.”

The NW CWU also believes that it’s time for a clear-out of those Labour MPs who jumped on the New Labour bandwagon and have tried to ditch Labour’s traditional values. The electorate want a Labour Party that stands up for the many and quality public services and not a pale imitation of the Conservative Party.

Finally Carl said: “The vast majority of North West Labour MPs have openly opposed the part privatisation of Royal Mail even though the un-elected Lord Mandelson has literally applied the thumbscrews. These MPs should be congratulated for sticking up for public services and their principles.”
