North West MP Calls For Commons Debate on RM Dispute

Today (23rd Oct) in the House of Commons I called for a full parliamentary debate about the future of Royal Mail in view of the dispute which is threatening to wreck the industry.

I am saddened that negotiations have broken down and that strike action has begun. The postal workers have been pushed beyond the limits of endurance by a bullying and macho management which has failed over many years to modernise Royal Mail.
The Government is making sustained efforts to get both sides round the table and put their dispute to the formal arbitration process with ACAS.  I believe that by discussing and negotiating, a solution can be found to safeguard the future of our postal services.

It is clear that Royal Mail needs to be an efficient, modern postal company, securing as many jobs as possible and providing customers with the services they need.

David Chaytor MP for Bury North.
