The Communication Workers Union has secured a two-year pay deal for staff at mobile firm O2 worth 2.5 per cent this year and 2.75 per cent in 2011 following seven months of hard negotiations. CWU is now recommending the offer to members in a consultative ballot on the basis that the overall pay offer has improved and that there has been a breakthrough on the issue of pay progression. The ballot closes on 19th August in time for the rise to go into August pay packets.
“We’ve made a significant breakthrough on pay progression which we’ve been working on for the last five years. Potentially thousands of staff – especially those who work in O2 shops – could now benefit year on year. Until now the only way they could progress was through the annual pay negotiations. “This is undoubtedly the best deal we could achieve through negotiation. As a two-year deal it provides stability to both staff and the company and we hope that members will vote to accept this offer.” CWU represents over 3,000 staff at O2 in call centre, retail and engineering roles. |
