As the North West Regional Women’s Committee (NWRWC) Secretary, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you an idea of what we do.
The Committee meet at least 4 times per year and meetings are held at various venues across the Northwest.
The venues are usually located in Manchester for the AGM, Rusholme in April, Preston in July and Liverpool in October.
I am an Assistant Secretary for Manchester Combined Branch (mainly telecoms engineering) on a fulltime basis and have held this post for a number of years.
I also hold the post of Regional Women’s Secretary and am on the CWU’s national Women’s Advisory Committee (WAC) too and Co-Chair the Northwest Women’s TUC committee.
I work for Openreach (a BT group company) in Case Management based at Ashton-Under-Lyne, Manchester and am also a Business Unit Trainer for Openreach.
I have been with BT for over 38 years and have spent all of that time working on the engineering/technical side of the business.
There is a copy of our Campaign Plan on the site and my Annual Report so that you can see that the NWRWC are active in many areas.
We have focused on supporting branches, Reps and members, especially regarding CWU campaigns & providing more help & development with women’s issues. One of the highlights of each year is the ‘Women of Today’ event that we organise annually for our members, activists and fellow union colleagues.
We have previously held Women’s events in Manchester, Preston and Liverpool and they are for you, the members. We are intending to hold more events in workplaces across the Northwest so if you’re interested in us coming to your workplace, please let us know.
They are free and an opportunity for you to meet some of your CWU Officers and many other female members. We try to have a bit of fun as well as covering some more serious topics affecting women. We also have information regarding Education, Equality and the CWU Humanitarian Aid Charity.
If you have any feedback, please let me know as we are always open to new ideas & improvement. We also welcome anyone who would like to attend our meetings as an observer so let me know if you’d like to come and see what we do.
