Four Pillars N West And N Wales Forum Pays Tribute To CWU Legends

Liverpool 27th Febraury

On a cold and snowing morning in Liverpool, delegates from CWU North West and North Wales Branches gathered at the Adelphi Hotel to listen to presentations from the Union’s Four Pillars negotiating team on the agreement that will shortly be put to ballot of all the Postal section membership of the CWU.

But, as has been the case with so many CWU meetings, forums and conferences over the first two months of this year, a cloak of deep sadness has covered the proceedings; as the Union comes to terms with the loss of respected and much loved branch activists, who seem to have been taken from us so early in their lives.

With the passing of Dave Roebuck, former Branch Officer of CWU Northlancs and Cumbria Branch and Divisional Rep NW/NW, and Ray Lucas, former Branch Officer of the CWU Merseyside Amal branch and the merged Greater Mersey & SW Lancs Branch the North West, delegates stood together and celebrated the lives of both fallen comrades and to stand as one with their families and loved ones at this time of deep sorrow.

Here, Jane Loftus, the Union’s President opened the Four Pillars Forum and detailed the events of the meeting before leading the delegates and former colleagues in a 1 minute celebration of the lives of both Dave and Ray:
