A very moving tribute to murdered MP, Jo Cox, took place at the end of the first day of Labour Party Conference 2016 being held in Liverpool this week.
Opened by Rachel Reeve MP who spoke warmly and movingly of her former friend and colleague. She recounted to conference delegates moments she had had with Jo and her family last September. She shared tea and cake in the family garden and ate apples from the tree in the garden. A year later she was back under that same tree, burying the ashes of a ‘wonderful human being’ – her friend Jo.
Conference was reminded of several times during the tribute, Jo Cox’s words, "We have far more in common than that which divides us."
Closing with the words, "No one can replace a mother, Jo we miss you."
Following the video tribute to Jo Cox, Baroness Jan Royall closed the tribute in a short speech during which she recounted Jo’s words: "I demand a world where there is no violence to women or girls!" She told conference that we must continue her work and that this would be the biggest tribute to Jo Cox, in continueing her work towards that goal.
Below is the video of the full tribute to Jo Cox today at conference:
