With the support of Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner, the CWU has agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lancashire Police covering Dog Attacks.
Confidence in how the police deal with dog attacks is not what it should be. Hence, why we contacted the Police Commissioner. Credit to Lancashire Police, who responded positively and were open to meeting to explore ways we could improve how they responded to dog attacks, not just postal workers, but all workers who deliver and visit households and may face the threat of dog attacks.
The MOU makes it clear what is expected of the Police and the postal worker who has been attacked or injured.
The MOU will be overseen by CWU Area Safety Reps for Lancashire, who can now raise any concerns over how the police are progressing any dog attack investigations.
The agreement covers the following:
-
Actions to follow when a crime or incident is in progress
-
Response to an ongoing incident
-
Crime or Investigation progression
-
Dissatisfaction with Service
-
Working Together
You can download the MOU by clicking on the following link Postal Workers MOU Lancs 2025 If you are having a problem or have concerns about a dog while at work, you can use the union’s ATLAS system to submit a report. It will take less than 5 minutes to complete. This will be urgently reviewed by a CWU officer if the concern you have raised is serious. Your report will be shared with Lancashire police and/or environmental health officers. Please see the poster below, which will be displayed in every Royal Mail Delivery office in Lancashire.
